What programs are you running right now?

We’re currently offering:

What happens at Rock Camp?

Campers choose or are matched with an instrument, form a band, write original music, create band merch, and build confidence through art and empowerment workshops.

Workshops include:

  • Songwriting

  • Beginner + intermediate instrument instruction

  • Confidence + grounding exercises

  • Community and identity conversations

  • Creative stations (zines, buttons, posters, etc.)

By the end of the week, they perform at our Camp Showcase — [Add link].

How does sliding scale work?

We review applications weekly and do our best to accommodate every camper.

Do you offer internships?

Not paid at this time, but we always welcome volunteers who want experience in:

  • Music instruction

  • Youth work

  • Event support

  • Photography/videography

  • Arts + crafts

  • Community leadership

Can my 8-year-old participate?

Yes — ages 8 through 17 are welcome.
No musical experience required.

Do you offer private music lessons?

Many of our counselors teach privately or can help you find the right teacher.
Ask any counselor at an event or email us for a warm handoff.

Do you accept instrument donations?

Yes! We depend on them and work with NorthEast Music Center to repair and match instruments to campers.

Not yet. SGR is run by volunteers (amazing ones!).
As we grow, we plan to compensate instructors and community leaders.
We do hire freelancers for specialized roles (sound, design, tech, photography).

We always need extra hands and welcome all skill levels.

What instruments can campers learn at Rock Camp?

Whatever they’re excited about.
Common choices: Guitar, bass, drums, vocals, ukulele, keyboards, and percussion.

If we don’t have the instrument they want, we try to source one.

Do I need my own instrument?

No — SGR provides instruments for camp week.
Campers may share gear, which often leads to friendship and collaboration.

Are meals or snacks provided?

Yes — we provide breakfast, snack, lunch, and snack each day.
If your camper has allergies or dietary restrictions, let us know on the Camp Registration Form — [Add link].

What is the camper-to-instructor ratio?

Each band has a minimum of two dedicated instructors, plus workshop staff and floaters throughout the day.
We always welcome more volunteers — more adults = more support and rest options for campers.

Is financial aid available?

Want to sponsor a scholarship? You can name one in honor of someone who embodies our mission.

How do I know if my child is ready for Rock Camp?

If they’re 8+, curious, and want to explore music or creativity, they’re ready.

What safety measures are in place?

  • All volunteers receive background checks

  • Certified nurse on staff

  • School security on site

  • Counselors trained in prevention, de-escalation, grounding, and inclusive practices

  • We model honesty, respect, and community care every day

Can my camper attend with no musical experience?

Yes — many start from zero and thrive.

What is the daily schedule like?

A typical day includes:

  • Rotating 40-minute workshops in music, art, confidence, and community

  • Band practice

  • Breaks and grounding time

  • End-of-day local entertainment

Are there performance opportunities outside of camp?

Not many dedicated SGR shows yet, but camp gives you the skills and confidence to perform anywhere.

Do you accommodate children with special needs or disabilities?

Yes. If one-on-one support is needed, we may ask a parent or helper to attend so your camper has consistent support.

What are the benefits of attending Rock Camp?

What if my child needs to miss a day?

Email us so we can plan around it.
Just remember — missing a day affects the whole band, so we encourage families to attend all five days unless illness or emergencies arise.

Can parents attend the final showcase?

Yes! Bring family, friends, and anyone who wants to celebrate.

How do you ensure an inclusive environment?

We cultivate:

We aim to make every camper feel safe, seen, and valued.

What should my child bring to camp?

What if Rock Camp is canceled unexpectedly?

You’ll receive a refund and our deepest apologies. We only cancel if absolutely unavoidable.

Are there opportunities for parents to be involved?

Yes! Email us with your interests. We always need:

  • Workshop helpers

  • Production/tech support

  • Art/craft help

  • Content capturing

  • Extra hands for daily tasks

Can campers return multiple years?

Yes! We’re also building a Youth Leadership Group so alumni can support future camps, mentor younger campers, and help shape SGR’s direction.
