A new day camp for girls will be held in Scranton in July, led by a Northeast Pennsylvania native bass player and instructor.Natalie Jurosky’s new nonprofit, Scranton Girls Rock, aims to teach instruments, vocals and confidence.

“Scranton Girls Rock is just a space where we get a bunch of girls and we give them some instruments, we turn them into rock stars and we put on a show,” she said.

Jurosky graduated from Mid Valley Secondary Center in 2008 and was part of the Scranton-area rock band Graces Downfall. She now lives in Orlando, Florida, where she performs, gives lessons and volunteers at a similar rock camp for girls.“Everybody always has a blast and loves the energy,” she said. She also has a promotion company for creative women called “Women Who Vybe.”

The camp is July 14–19, ending with a public performance at the Ritz Theater in Scranton. The plan is to offer lessons in guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, ukulele and vocals, and the chance to form a band to collaborate on an original song. She expects to have more than 20 instructors, including visits by local musicians. It is open to girls, trans and nonbinary youth ages 7 through 17.The cost is $300, with plans for financial assistance.Registration is open through June 10.The camp will begin at Northeast Scranton Intermediate School and spend the final two days at the Ritz Theater.
